They’re cool, calm and collected Walking around like they have their lives planned out Like it’s on a silver platter laid out And problems like anxiety and rejection? They don’t know what that’s about
But, you’re just a person looking from the outside in Everything may seem alright Behind closed doors they are struggling It’s hard to see what’s truly within
Not everything is as it seems No longer is it a life full of fantasies Depression, loneliness, and failure take control Crushing all of the dreams
Like a duck, fine above the surface However, you start to notice A look underneath and you see it’s not all bliss Only struggles to stay afloat
Addendum: For our Robert Frost response poem we chose to write about someone who, to the outside world, is perceived as the normal everyday person. However, this poem exposes what’s truly underneath all the misconceptions. Paying close attention to Frost’s techniques, we chose to use a unique AABA rhyme scheme in our poem. We also chose to implement Frost’s use of metaphors by referring to a duck in the last stanza.
